BRF Bäcken is a housing co-operative in Sweden, where residents don’t own their flats outright but instead purchase shares (andelar) in the co-op, which grants them the right to live in a specific flat. The co-op operates under Swedish laws governing housing co-operatives and is managed by a board elected annually by members at the general assembly, typically held in April. The co-op includes 111 flats of varying sizes and designs. Due to high demand, there is a separate waiting list for garage spaces. Members are involved in the governance and decision-making processes of the co-op, including regular audits by chartered accountants.
